My New Favorite Site…

I have a new addiction. It’s name is Mixergy.
The site is a collection of interviews by an extremely successful entrepreneur named Andrew Warner (”Hey everybody, this is Andrew Warner of Mixergy.com where ambitious upstarts mix!”). He sold a web company a few years back and now spends his time studying what other internet entrepreneurs have done to build great companies–the best part is he puts it all (I think) on the net for everyone to benefit!
It’s an awesome resource and I’d highly recommend checking it out now. Now I’m just hoping he lands Elon Musk soon, that dude is fascinating.
What I Want For My Birthday

My birthday in 2011 that is. Check out Tesla’s new Model S. It’s super slick. Some stats:
-300 mile range
-45 min charge
-0-60 in a tad over 5 seconds
Those numbers are sick. Best part is, it’s only about $50k. I know that’s not cheap but considering the fact that the Roadster was $110k, this is a steal. I’ll wait for the next model, hopefully it’s cut in half one more time.

Marketing Links of the Week
Posted on March 26th, 2009 in Weekly Links | 1 Comment »
I’m going to start posting a few of my favorite links of the week. It’s a played out idea but it’s really more for my reference than anything. I save ‘em all in delicious but this makes it easier for me to take a look at them again in the future.
Shane’s post on selling a site for $1M - I found this via SEObook today but it’s a good link so please ignore my redundancy.
SEOmoz re-released their link building guide. Great for newbs or just to reaffirm your link building strategies.
One of the best pieces of linkbait ever - Watch the crisis of credit on the site or my embedded one below.

Check out Gatorade’s newest addition to their G campaign. I’m not a big Monty Python fan or anything but this is ridiculously funny. Just needed Shaq as the leader of the Jabbawokeez. If they want links out of this, they deserve ‘em. This is hilarious.
The Snowball

I’m about 300 pages into the massive book about the life of Warren Buffett, The Snowball. This book is a million times better than of the other Buffett books I’ve read because he handpicked the author and gave her candid accounts of his personal life and biz deals.
If you’re entrepreneurially inclined, this book is a most read. In my opinion, the most important lessons are specialization and leverage. These two facts are the basis of Buffett’s wealth, the leverage he gained from managing others’ money and his intense specialization in security selection and leaving operations to managers more skilled than he.
I also love Buffett’s views on diversification–put your eggs all in one basket and do absolutely everything in the world to protect those eggs.
This isn’t much of a review but this book is a must read. Buy it, read it, then go to Berk’s website and read a few of his annual reports. It may all sound stale but it’s seriously inspiring (or I’m just weird).
Nice web strategy

This morning I felt like dreaming about the future fruits of my web labor, so I spent some time on luxist. One of the recent posts is about a new company that brokers private flights called evojets. It seems like an interesting enough business, although probably a really crowded niche, but what’s up with their web presence?
Stupid mistake no. 1–they’re promoting their company without a full site up. It should not take more than a week from a company to get something up so that just makes you look bad in my opinion.
Stupid mistake no. 2–look at the very last line on their site. It says, “Website design and logo design by logoworks.” This company is planning on catering to the super rich and they bought the Super Duper Platinum Package from logoworks?!
Maybe I should call them up and offer to submit their site to millions of search engines ;-)!
Stuff like this drives me nuts. This company is planning on becoming a big deal to pretty influential people and they’re sucking it up in the web dept.

I know I suck at blogging but oh well. I’ll give it one last go at consistency. Maybe I can do something decent here!
